What is the difference between the boats?

Madeleine is a sailing vessel and Rumrunner II is a 1929 classic motor yacht. While Madeleine is more for the sailing experience, RumRunner II is more about the informative and historic tour, as she gets closer to the shoreline and deeper into coves. Both boats offer exceptional views of Newport Harbor & Narragansett Bay.  Two very different experiences – both a lot of fun!

Where do we board and disembark Madeleine and RumRunner II?

Madeleine & RumRunner II are located on Bannister’s Wharf, right in the heart of historic down town Newport. Our ticket booth has a dark green awning and is right next to the outdoor patio of the Black Pearl restaurant. For GPS purposes, our official dockside address is 24 Bannister’s Wharf, Newport RI 02840.

Are children welcome on board the boats?

Yes, children of all ages are welcome onboard. The ticket price on each of our boats are All Ages Tickets.   Please note that all children must be fully supervised while onboard, as well as on the dock during boarding and disembarking.

Are there some cruises that are more family friendly than others?

We do take children of all ages on all our trips but there are certain trips and times that may better than others – please call our ticket desk and we’ll be happy to go over trips that work really well with children.  We also offer Early Bird Specials on both our boat.  The Early Bird Specials give $5 off every ticket so for anyone looking to save some money, these are great trips to take.  Check out our Early Bird Special Cruises

Is there parking nearby?

Yes, there is pay public parking on the left side (or south) of Bannister’s Wharf at the Mooring Restaurant parking lot. However on busy summer days this lot can fill up quickly. The Newport County Convention and Visitors Bureau offer a larger parking lot which is located on America ‘s Cup Avenue about a ten minute walk from Bannister’s Wharf. For a complete map of Newport public parking please click on this link.   There is metered parking throughout the waterfront area as well.  Most metered parking has a 3 hour limit and our longest trip is 2 hours in length.  Please do leave plenty of time for traffic and parking in order to check in at our ticket desk at least 30 minutes prior to departure.  

Are there restrooms onboard?

Yes, All of our boats have a marine ‘head’ or restroom for our guests comfort and convenience.

What should I wear on board?

Please dress for an outdoor activity depending on the weather of the day, as conditions can change rapidly. Keep in mind that the temperatures are lower on water than on land. A jacket or sweater is usually enough in the spring and early fall. October and November are the chilliest months in which you may want to bring a hat and gloves – but  some of the best sailing can happen at the time of year along with the changing colors of the leaves along the waterfront.  During sunny summer days, do not forget to bring sun block and a hat. We suggest shoes with flat soft soles for your own comfort and safety when moving about the boat while underway.

What refreshments are offered onboard?

We offer complimentary bottled water on both our boats on all trips. Madeleine also offers complimentary champagne and beer during the sunset sail, and Rumrunner II offers complimentary rum punch and beer during the cocktail trips. Mimosas and Madeleines are served on both Rum Runner II’s morning Lighthouses & Mimosas cruise and Madeleine’s Morning Glory Sail as well. You are more than welcome to bring a snack or a drink ion board with you.  Unless you have chartered the boat for a private event, You wont be able to bring coolers with drinks or large spreads of food onboard.

What if the weather is bad?

We sail on our scheduled cruises through a variety of weather conditions.  We are an outdoor activity so please dress for the weather of the day.  If we were to cancel a cruise due to weather, anyone who has purchased tickets can either reschedule or will receive a full refund.

Do both boats offer a narrated tour?

RumRunner II offers a fully narrated tour on the microphone on The East Passage Express Cruise which is offered twice each afternoon.  Our guide will talk about many of the points of interest all along the waterfront.  In the morning we have our Lighthouses & Mimosas cruise which is a much lighter version of the afternoon tour, concentrating more on the Lighthouses at the southern end of the bay.  While we do point out a few other historical places along the waterfront, the tour is mainly about the lighthouses on the southern end of the bay.    Although not formally narrated, between handling the lines and sails, the crew on Madeleine do walk around, chat with guests and point out highlights along the way.   And your free to ask as questions at any time.

For the most history, Rum Runner II’s afternoon East Passage Express offers the most information on a lot of different points of interest all along the waterfront.  This is the best trip for history buffs!

How long are your sails and cruises?

Madeleine goes out for 1 ½ hour Scenic Day Sails throughout the day. The Champagne Sunset Sail varies depending on the sunset calendar. During peak season (June-July) when the sun is setting at its latest, the sunset sail can lasts for about 2 hours.

Rum Runner II goes out for 1 ¼  hours on the Lighthouse & Mimosas tours in the morning, 1 ¼ hour for the East Passage Express Tour during the day, and 1 hour cocktail cruises in the evening.

Are the boats available for private charters?

Yes, both Madeleine and Rum Runner II are available for private charters and can accommodate up to 49 guests. Axopar is available for private charter for up to 6 guests.  They make the perfect platform for any event such as family reunions, graduation parties, birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding groups, corporate outings or incentive trips. For larger groups, there are several options for sailing in company with several vessels.  We can arrange a multi-boat charter for most any size group. For more information and help with planning your private charter, please call 800-395-1343 or 401-835-2409. Or you may e-mail [email protected] for additional information.

What is your cancellation policy?

All tickets are fully refundable up to 24 hours prior to your cruise.  Inside of 24 hours before departure tickets become non refundable.
