Frequently Asked Questions - Newport Sailing Tours

Where do we board and disembark the Madeleine and Rumrunner II?

Our boats are located on Bannister's Wharf, right in the heart of historic down town Newport . Our ticket booth has a green awning and is right next to the outdoor patio of the Black Pearl restaurant. For GPS purposes, our official address is 24 Bannister's Wharf, Newport RI 02840 . Is there parking nearby?

Yes, there are public parking lots on either side of Bannister's Wharf, at the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina and at the Mooring's Restaurant. However, on busy summer days these lots can fill up quickly. The Newport County Convention and Visitor's Bureau offer a larger parking lot which is located on America 's Cup Avenue about a ten minute walk from Bannister's Wharf. Are children welcome onboard the boats?

Yes, children of all ages are welcome onboard. Children under 12 are $5 off the adult ticket price. Please note that all children must be fully supervised while onboard, as well as on the dock during boarding and disembarking.

Are there restrooms onboard?

Yes, both boats have a marine ‘head' or restroom for our guests comfort and convenience.

What should I wear onboard?

Please dress accordingly to the weather, as conditions can change rapidly. Keep in mind that the temperatures are lower on water than on land. A light jacket or sweater is usually enough in the spring and fall. During sunny summer days, do not forget to bring sun block and a hat. We suggest shoes with flat soft soles for your own comfort and safety.

What refreshments are offered onboard?

We offer complimentary water and juices onboard both boats during the day. Madeleine offers complimentary champagne and beer during the sunset sail, and Rumrunner II offers complimentary rum punch and beer during the cocktail trips. You are more than welcome to bring a snack or a drink in a plastic cup, but unless you have chartered the boat for a private event, coolers with drinks or large spreads of food are not permitted onboard.

What if the weather is bad?

We sail on our schedule cruises, rain or shine, unless the Captain decides that the weather conditions are unsafe for our passengers. In such case your ticket is fully refundable, at the Dock Manager's discretion. Should you decide to cancel due to inclement weather, please call us at least 2 hours prior in order for your tickets to be refunded.

What is the difference between the boats?

Madeleine is a sailing yacht and Rumrunner II is a classic motor yacht. While Madeleine is more about the sailing experience, Rumrunner II is more about the informative and historic tour, as she gets closer to the shoreline and deeper into coves.

Do both boats offer a narrated tour?

Yes. The Rumrunner II offers a fully narrated tour on the microphone. Although not formally narrated, between handling the lines and sails, the crew on Madeleine points out the sights and high lights along the way.

How long are your sails and cruises?

Madeleine goes out for 1 ½ hour sails during the day. The sunset sail varies depending on the sunset calendar. During peak season, the sunset sail lasts for about 2 hours.

Rumrunner II goes out for 1 ¼ narrated cruises during the day, and 1 hour cocktail cruises in the evening.

How do we purchase tickets?

Call our ticket booth at 401-847-0299 or 0298 to make your reservation. Please keep in mind that we do not take reservations more than 5 days ahead of time. Your tickets must be picked up and paid for at least one hour prior to boarding. After this time we cannot guarantee your reservation.

Are the boats available for private charters?

Yes, both Madeleine and Rumrunner II are available for private charters, and make the perfect platform for any event such as family reunions, graduation parties, birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding groups, corporate outings or incentive trips. For more information and help with planning your private charter, please contact Jenny Holmqvist at 401-207-9321 or jholmqvist@atlanticstars.com
